My first post in weeks. Sorry I’ve been busy with life!
As I sit here and ponder over the big Boston loss tonight during the 2010 NBA Championship Series, I keep reading comments about how Boston fans are sore losers and how they are bitter till the end. I beg to differ.
Any Boston fan knows that heartache and losing come hand in hand when rooting for any Boston team. Look at The Red Sox, they went 86 years without winning The World Series (Please see The Curse of The Bambino!). Name one team that has a fan base that has stuck by them through the losses year after year, especially 86 years (Besides Cub fans, my hats off to you guys!).
Next we have The Pats (Patriots), 43 years of losses before finally winning the Super Bowl in 2002. It took them 26 years just to make their first appearance in the Super Bowl in 1985 since the team’s inaugural year in 1959 when they were still called the “Boston Patriots”.
Hockey you ask? The Bruins haven’t won a cup in 38 years! 1972 was the year and Sammy Davis Jr. was topping the Billboard charts. (R.I.P. Sammy) 38 LONG years!
Finally, The Celtics! With 17 Championships under their belts, they are the only Boston sports team with some sort of hope. Tough loss to the Lakers tonight. All I can say about that situation is, they stood up to a giant team and only lost by 4 points in one of the lowest scoring NBA Championship games in Lakers history.
Many people ask me why I’m a Boston fan even though I was born and raised in California. My answer? California fans. (AKA: band wagon fans.) This year alone, I’ve seen Raiders fans become Charger fans, Dodgers fans become Angels fans, Ducks fans become Kings fans, I have even witnessed Lakers fans become Celtic fans after game 5 then back to Lakers fans when game 7 was over. California fans seem to have no identity except for what is cool and popular in Hollywood and of course who’s winning. I have heard of a few Boston fans that have lived and died without seeing any kind of championship games. Their last words? “Go Boston!” (Or “F**k you Buckner!”, depending on who you talk to). That’s loyalty you don’t see much on the West Coast.
So as you see, to be a Boston fan is to be heart broken ALL the time. It’s just the way of the world. Sore losers? I think not. Disappointed? Of course! Boston win or lose till the end? You bet your baked beans!
PS. I have left all you Boston Fans with a little slice of Boston history for your ears. The link is below.
Warning: Before pressing play, this can be quite infectious!

Right on bro! Im Chicago for life and we feel the pain in every sport. Although there are some ride or die Lakers/Other LA sports fans, most are frontrunners because they are used to nothing in their lifetime other than winning. Whether it be the Ducks, the Angels, the Lakers etc., our generation has had Cali teams winning all the time.
It wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t so goddamn cocky about it and such rude and arrogant fans. Burning the city that they live in when they win, it just makes me sick…
